Jagannath Temple Puri — Visitor Guide
Darshan, timings, dress code and tips for the Jagannath Temple
The 12th-century Shree Jagannath Temple is the heart of Puri and one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites. This guide covers the basics so your darshan goes smoothly.
Darshan & timings
The temple opens before dawn and stays open late, with several rituals through the day. Mornings are quieter; festival days are very crowded — plan early.
Dress & entry
Modest, traditional dress is expected. Note that entry is permitted for Hindus only; non-Hindu visitors can view the temple from the nearby Raghunandan Library rooftop. Mobile phones, leather and cameras are not allowed inside.
Mahaprasad
Don't miss the Mahaprasad at Ananda Bazaar — the temple's famous offering, cooked in earthen pots.
