Snana Yatra, Puri
The ceremonial bathing festival before Rath Yatra
Snana Yatra is the grand ceremonial bath of the deities, held on Jyeshtha Purnima (full moon, usually June) — one of the oldest recorded festivals of Lord Jagannath.
What happens
The deities are brought to the Snana Bedi and bathed with 108 pots of water, then appear in the elephant-faced Gajanana Besha. After this, they go into a period of seclusion (Anasara) before the Rath Yatra.
Good to know
It falls a couple of weeks before the Chariot Festival — a meaningful time to visit for devotees.
